Uterine Fibroid

This is one of the commonest gynaecological disorder which has been known from ancient times. Many women do not or are unaware they have fibroid in view of the asymptomatic nature. However it can be symptomatic leading to severe form and resultant decrease in quality of life.
Fibroid are benign which means non-cancerous growth that develop in and around the uterus and in some cases has been found outside the uterus though their percentage is minimal. They have been linked to oestrogen and usually develop between 16 to 50 years which is the range of reproductive years. Reduction or shrinkage in size is noted during menopause which is period of reduction in oestrogen level.
Symptoms of fibroid which you may experience include heavy or painful periods, pain in the abdomen which you call tummy pain, indigestion or constipation, lower back pain, urinary symptoms (regular or frequent urination). Moreso, you can also experience sexual discomfort or pain. Other symptoms include dizziness in situation in which the heavy period is more than usual. Fibroid can affect fertility and also complicate pregnancy.
